Heading into District 4-3A play against Tularosa on a two-match losing streak isn’t how the Capitan Lady Tiger volleyball team would like to be, but coach Kimberly Stone says the season is a work in progress.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries this season, so we’ve been working with a lot of lineups,” Stone said. “We’ve had some come back from injury last week, and incorporating them, there’s challenges with that.”
Capitan’s last match was a 3-1 loss at Fort Sumner, Oct. 1, with a sweep against Mesilla Valley preceding that.
It’s not like the Lady Tigers (4-8) aren’t playing well. They have swept Cloudcroft twice and proved they aren’t a pushover team.
Capitan just has to get back into a groove. Whether they can do so before Oct. 6 has yet to be seen.
“They’ve always been tough, and it won’t be any different this year,” Stone said of the 6-5 Lady Wildcats. “We haven’t actually seen them play, other than some scrimmages early on.
“We’ll have the advantage being at home,” she added. “We’ll also start the match honoring breast cancer survivors.”
