Winless in District 4-3A, three more matches left. Can Capitan’s volleyball team at least salvage a pair of victories to keep from being in the cellar when the district tournament commences?
Lady Tiger coach Kimberly Stone thinks so.
“I’m hoping we’re due for a win,” Stone said after her team’s four-game loss at Tularosa on Oct. 18. “The girls are more than capable of it. It’s just about cleaning up small errors, missed serves, shanks, hitting the ball out of bounds.”
Loving is next on the schedule, a road match on Oct. 21. Then it’s nothing until the following weekend, a road match at Dexter on Oct. 27, and a home finale vs. Eunice Oct. 29.
To keep from finishing last and being handed the fourth seed in the district tournament, one win likely won’t be enough.
“There’s a lot of scenarios out there. If we do our job and win, that will put us in a little better situation,” Stone said. “Otherwise, we’ll have to play up from the bottom, and we can do that. The girls have the ability to do that, but they’ll have to come and do it. It’s still not totally out of reach by any means.”
