GLEN ROSE, TEXAS – Ruidoso graduate Lexi Lucero, fresh off of her first collegiate tournament, quickly picked up her game as she fired a first round 76 at the TexAnn Fall Classic to lead the Lady Mustangs into seventh at the Squaw Valley Golf Course, Sept. 11.
WNMU fired an opening round 311 to sit four-strokes back of Cameron in sixth. Midwestern State leads the 10-team field by two-strokes with a 284. Newman’s Vicky Gonzalez is the top individual with a 68 to hold a two-stroke advantage.
Lucero made big strides from last week as she had rounds of 86-87, she came back today strong to open with a 76 to lead the Lady Mustangs as she is in a tie for 23rd. Sophomore Brenda Dominguez and junior Shelby Turner are both tied for 26th after rounds of 78. For Dominguez, that makes three straight rounds under 80 to start the year and back-to-back 78’s.
Turner responded from her final round 83 in Pueblo with her second score in the 70’s. Senior Samantha Hernandez is just a shot back with a 79 and is tied for 30th. Sophomore Julia Enriquez rounded out the five for the Lady Mustangs as she carded an 85 to tie for 44th.
WNMU will tee off the second and final round of the TexAnn Fall Classic Tuesday morning starting at 8:30 a.m., CST.
