Area runners compete at Rio Rancho

All three area cross country teams were in Rio Rancho, Oct. 14, for the Rio Rancho Jamboree. All three came away with mixed results.

The best a local athlete did was Cisco Bob’s 20th place finish in the Large School division, while Naomi Chavez was 38th for the Ruidoso girls with a time of 24:08.13.

Team-wise, the Warriors girls were 10th overall, two spots behind District 3/4-4A opponent Silver. Another district rival, Moriarty, took 12th.

As a team, Ruidoso’s boys were 13th, just one spot behind Silver, while Moriarty was fourth in large-school standings.

In the small-school division, Capitan’s girls were the only locals with enough for a team score, taking 14th overall and led by Adrianna Reomero’s time of 25:00.10. District 3/4/5/-3A member Cottonwood Classical won the division.

Kort Sparks led the Tiger boys with a time of 20:03.20.

Mescalero was also represented, as Alex Kaydahzinne returned to running to finish with a time of 20:32.99. Julene Valdez was the fastest Mescalero girl at 26:42.40.

All three schools compete this Saturday at the Warrior Invitational, Oct. 21. Racing begins at 10 a.m. at Ruidoso High School.

Ruidoso girls team finished 10th overall with 277 points, Silver (District 3/4-4A) came in at eighth. Bosque was 7th, Wingate 6th. That’s it for Class 4A schools in the top 10. District 3/4-4A opponent Moriarty was 12th.
