Although he’s known mostly for his time at Artesia High School, Cooper Henderson got his start as a high school coach at Ruidoso.

While there, he amassed a 55-19-1 record, including leading the Warriors to a State title in 1985.

That goes with the 14 titles he lead Artesia teams to after moving to his Alma Mater in 1989.

For that and so much more, Henderson was one of three coaches and administrators named to the NMAA Hall of Fame class for 2018.

Joining Henderson are Matt Martinez of Pojoaque and Louie Baisa in Lordsburg.

In addition to the 1985 title – a 21-19 victory over then-district-rival Silver – Henderson was also at the Warriors’ helm when they played in the 1986 and 1988 State title games.

Most recently, he was named the 2015 NFHS Football Coach of the Year, and was inducted – with his father L.G., into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
