CAPITAN – When Carrizozo Grizzly Jared Guevara shot a three pointer with 4:23 in the third quarter to give his team a 31-28 lead over Cloudcroft, Jan. 4, it marked a heroic comeback from a 20-7 deficit at the end of the first quarter.

However, the Bears shut down Carrizozo in the final frame, holding the Grizzlies to just three points and earning a 53-37 victory.

Guevara had 15 points to lead Carrizozo (2-10), which will take on Corona in the next round today after the Cardinals fell to tournament host Capitan.

Cloudcroft (2-8) got 14 points from Dewell Eldridge and a mess of blocks from center Tristan Eamello.

Today’s Grizzly-Cardinal matchup in the consolation rounds is set for 6:30 p.m.
