CAPITAN – After one quarter, Jan. 4, in the first round of the Smokey Bear Tournament, Hondo’s boys had a 12-11 lead thanks to a three-pointer by Kevin Fernandez.

But the wheels fell off in the second half for the Eagles, as Hagerman turned that slim deficit into a 63-34 victory.

Thomas Hernandez had the best day of any Eagle, scoring 10 points, almost all of them in the third quarter.

Hagerman (4-6) got 20 points from Osbaldo Najera and 12 points from Chris Manz.

The Eagles (1-8) face a very tall order in Gateway Christian today at 3:30 p.m.
