RUIDOSO – For Ruidoso senior lineman Tyler McClendon, being part of a Class 4A State champion football team was more than the crowning achievement of his high school career, it was also the start of the next chapter.
That chapter began Feb. 13, when he made it official that he signed a letter of intent to attend Eastern New Mexico University on a football scholarship.
When asked why he made that choice, he said it just felt natural.
“The atmosphere, the overall feel there,” McClendon said. “They brought me in like I was one of their own.”
It might seem a bit ironic that McClendon will be calling Greyhound Stadium home next fall – the same stadium that hosts high school rival Portales.
That doesn’t bother McClendon at all.
“Looking at their record, it’s exciting to go there and be part of a great program,” McClendon said. “It’s a nice stadium and exciting to be a part of that.”
